Story
The Woori Festival was initiated by the Nubuke Foundation to promote and highlight the artistic skills of community in Wa, Nadowli and Nandom towns in the Upper West region of Ghana. Initially conceived to showcase the new creations and dynamism within the women’s weaving associations and collectives, the festival has expanded become a platform through which we celebrate art, poetry, literature, music and film from that region.
The festival is divided into two major activities:
Preparation and interventions- This comprises of training, mentoring, seminars and masterclasses with the different creatives and artisans up to two months prior with our team and partners.
3-day festival where artists, poets, film makers, musicians, fashion designers and writers show their work within the festival with the community and with online audiences.
The Festival is promoted in the Wa township and with our stakeholders- Centre for National Culture, Weaving Associations, Palaces, print and social media and our web platform.
The festival will target and highlight up to 20 creatives, and between 250 and 300 women weavers with intervention programmes and seminars.
Our partners include well established artists, academics (ie University of Applied Arts, Vienna, UDS, Wa) film makers, basket weavers, Centre for National Culture, Access Bank plc.
